The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) endeavors in imparting quality education and training to the students in different areas of electronics, electrical and communication engineering. This is one of the oldest departments of PRSCET and over the years it has continually upgraded itself in terms of academic programs, laboratory facilities and research infrastructures. The Department attracts best of the students for its Bachelors and Masters program. The faculty members in the departments are experts in their respective fields and take extreme care to shape the young talents. Apart from training they receive in the Department, the students also get exposures at the national and international levels through exchange programs and participation in conferences and competitive events. Over the years, our graduates and post graduates have found employment in leading national and international organizations and many of our students have made us proud through the achievements in their professional career.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING
The department of electrical and electronics engineering department of PRS college of engineering and technology offers a four year B-Tech course in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and an M-Tech course in a unique subject Power Systems Engineering. The pass out batches of our college has graduated with excellent performance in the qualifying examination of University of Kerala. Most of the eligible students were placed in various reputed National and international companies through career guidance and placement cell of the college. Several students were selected for PG programmes in IIT’s, NIT’s and top ranked foreign universities. The department gives emphasis to academic as well as extracurricular activities of the students by training them for improving their leadership qualities, presentation skills, organizing skills etc from the entry level itself. With a view to advance its twin interests of education and research, the department offers a 4 year undergraduate Bachelor of Technology course in Electronics and Electrical Engineering, a 2 year post graduate Master of Technology course in power systems engineering.
Look at EEE Curriculum
It covers fundamentals in the physical sciences such as Physics, Chemistry, and Materials Science, plus Mathematics and Computing, to provide a strong foundation for the senior years of studies. It also includes a communication-related course and General Education courses to provide broadening in non-technical areas that are deemed beneficial for professional careers and lifelong learning.
The courses on Engineering Mathematics, Circuit Analysis, Semiconductor Fundamentals, Electronics, Data Structures and Algorithms, Signals & Systems and AC Circuits & Machines are introduced to provide a broad background of all areas of EEE. In addition, students undertake laboratory experiments and a Design & Innovation Project to acquire the necessary grounding in the practical skills required of engineers.
The basic principles which underpin a broad spectrum of electrical and electronic engineering areas are taught. These include core courses on Engineering Electromagnetics, Integrated Electronics and Microprocessors. In addition, students select 2 elective courses from a list of more specialized courses in preparation for a more in-depth specialization in their final year.
Students are given the flexibility to select their prescribed elective courses and mainly focus on main project work relevant in main streams including power system, control system, power electronics, electrical machines, HVDC and many other innovative ideas which has significance in industries and societies.
(a) Electrical Machines Lab:
This laboratory is equipped with different types of DC Series and Compound Motors, Single and Three phase Induction Motors, Single and three phase Transformers, Alternator, Motor-Generator sets etc. The machines are also provided with necessary loading arrangements for conducting various tests. Measuring instruments such as Voltmeters, Ammeters, Watt meters, Tachometers etc of different ranges and types are also available for conducting the tests on the machines as per the
(b) Digital Circuits and Electronics Circuits Lab:
The lab is fully equipped with the facilities to conduct all the experiments in Digital Circuits and Electronic Circuits as per the prescribed syllabus of University of Kerala. With the facilities provided in the lab, the students can do project works for their final year of study.
(c) Electrical and Electronics Workshop:
This workshop gives hands on training to the students on di_erent types of domestic, commercial and industrial wiring. The workshop is also equipped for conducting experiments in Basic Electronics Circuits which is part of the curriculum for the Electrical Engineering course.
(d) Microprocessor Lab:
The lab is equipped with the facilities to conduct all the experiments with 8085 processors including interfacing devices.
(e) Measurements and Instrumentation Lab:
This lab is also set up in the department and is in the processing stage. Electrical Maintenance unit of the department undertakes urgent Electrical installations and maintenance of the whole campus using the facilities in the lab
(f) Power Systems lab:
The Department has comprehensive Engineering Training Equipment for the Power Systems Laboratory covering:
- Power Systems Simulators with Power Plant Module, Transmission Module, Substation Protective
- Relay Trainer, Load Module and SCADA Module.

LPG GAS LEAKAGE DETECTION AND AUTORECLOSING SYSTEM
The aim of this project is to monitor foe LPG leakage to avoid fire accidents providing house safety feature where security has been an important issue. When the system detects the LPG concentration in the air that exceeds the certain limit then it immediately close the valve connected to the LPG gas cylinder using stepper motor and also alerts the people at home by activating the buzzer.

AUTOMATIC SIGNALLING AND STREET LIGHT CONTROL AT THE CURVED ROADS BY THE USE OF PIEZO ELECTRIC SPEED BREAKERS
This project is designed for active signaling to avoid accidents on road ways of hill regions which are curved in nature and bone to have more accidents while driving the vehicle. The roadways are buildup with piezoelectric speed breakers at start and end of the curves. When a vehicle is passed through it, the speed breaker generates an electrical energy and this energy is used for providing electric signal to identify and giving a caution to vehicle coming from opposite side.

POWER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT OF GIRD COUPLED DFIG BASED WIND ENERGY SYSTEM USING STATCOM WITH FUZZY LOGIC CONTROLLER
This project addresses power quality problems due to connection of wind turbine with the grid and proposes control techniques using Fuzzy Logic Controllers. This consists of a STATCOM connected at PCC with a BESS and a DFIG. Fuzzy Logic Controller mitigates the power quality issues and BESS is used to sustain the real power source under fluctuating wind power.

A NEW CONTROL APPROACH FOR MAXIMUM POWER POINT TRACKING IN PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM BASED ON MODIFIED HILL-CLIMBING METHOD
The photovoltaic power generating system consists of a PV panel, a converter and a controller. It is necessary to improve the efficiency of either of these sections to improve the overall efficiency of the system. But improving the efficiency of PV panel and converter is inexpensive. One of the commonly used techniques is MPPT algorithms to improve efficiency of the system. Hill climbing algorithm is most commonly used MPPT algorithm. In this project an artificial neural network based modified hill climbing algorithm is used.

HYBRID RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCE INTERFACE TO THE GRID AT THE DISTRIBUTION LEVEL WITH POWER QUALITY IMPROVEMENTS
This project presents an entirely unique management strategy for achieving maximum benefits from the grid-interfacing inverters once they are connected in 3-phase 4-wire distribution systems. By incorporating active power filter functionality, the inverter is controlled to perform as a multi-function device. The combination of grid-interfacing electrical converter and the 3-phase 4-wire linear/non-linear unbalanced load seems as balanced linear load to the grid with such a control.

DIRECT FLUX AND TORQUE CONTROL OF THREE PHASE INDUCTION MOTOR WITH ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK BASED DTC
The direct torque control (DTC) of induction motor drive has several advantages such as fast dynamic response, simple and robust control structure and therefore it is commonly used in high performance control. But, there are some disadvantages with this method like high torque and current ripples, variable switching behavior and control problems at low speed rates. The purpose of this project is to find out the effects of ANN integrated DTC method on induction motor performance by numerical simulations. This consists of two different ANN models. Out of this, first ANN model select the optimum inverter and the second model is used for determination of flux vector position.

ENHANCING POWER QUALITY IN MICROGRID USING FUZZY LOGIC CONTROLLER
Micro grids are eco friendly power systems because they use renewable sources such as solar and wind power as the main power source. Micro grid operations have to satisfy quality requirements in terms of frequency and voltage. Voltage fluctuations mainly resulting from variable output power of renewable energy sources and these are strictly challenging power quality in distribution-generation systems. To reduce the voltage and frequency deviation, this project propose fuzzy controller. Fuzzy controller provides zero steady state frequency deviation with step load increment in power system.

Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd (KSEB Ltd) is a public sector agency under the Government of Kerala, India, that generates, transmits and distributes the electricity supply in the state. Established in 1957, the agency comes under the authority of the Department of Power.
The Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE) is a cadre of the Government of India. The officers of this service are responsible for managing the Electrical Engineering Organisation of the Indian Railways.
The Indian railways have technical and non-technical departments for its operation and management which form the base structure on which the railways function. Technical departments include civil, electrical and mechanical engineering, signaling and telecom, and several others dealing with similar disciplines, control of operation and movement is done by traffic services(IRTS) while the non-technical departments include general services such as accounts, personnel management, Railway protection Force (RPF) or security, among others. Each department has staff at various levels. The highest are the Group A officers, while the lowest in rank are the Group D staff members.

It provides Air traffic management (ATM) services over Indian airspace and adjoining oceanic areas.
